EDDIE
Robert,I sure hope you are feeling well and that you, your wife and Dad will experience a Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Year.
I completed the chair yesterday in time for my daughter Kathryn's birthday today.
In a lifetime of wood working this is my most enjoyable and satisfying experience. Shortly after I returned from
the seminar I purchased 45 board feet of walnut from Austin Hardwoods for $241.95 including tax. I purchased the
carbide donut from Woodcrafters, the rabbit bit from Woodworkers Supply and the dowels from Allen and Allen and
I was set to go about a week after the seminar. I probably followed the training manual you furnished closer than
the astronauts follow their preflight checklist. I also practiced my joints in scrap before I laid the iron to
my good wood.
In summary I really didn't make any mistakes or have any problem putting the chair together. I just had a good
time. As a woodworker we always critique our pieces in order to get better. My rear leg joints were not as crisp
as yours and my sanding shaping could be better in terms of confirmation and flow. I chose wipe on Minwax Poly
as my finish. I was extremely happy and believe that it has the best risk/reward ratio for an amateur who isn't
accomplished with a spray gun.
I will probably make at least one more chair, hopefully out of mesquite for my son who lives in California.
Thanks so much for your kind attention to my woodworking education and experience.
Best Regards
Eddie
