Robert Hensarling – Mesquite Chair Artisan & Custom Knife Maker – Blacksmithing
100 Pound “Little Giant” Trip Hammer
This is Ellie May. I bought her from the fine folks at the Houston Area Blacksmiths Association, then spend about a month restoring her. She was a sad site to behold before the restoration. I built the motor mount, supplied the motor (a three phase 1,100 RPM motor with a reduction that provides 275 RPM’s to the shaft pulley), and fabricated and installed a band brake system. Just like new now!

Tool holder made like the Clifton Ralph holder.

Foot treadle hold down bracket, adjustable
A little foot extension I made, since the hammer is mounted on RR ties. I may change to a different type later.
I’m tightening the crosshead. Even remembered to turn the motor off this time. I’m in the process of building a guard to cover the spring and arms. |
