HISTORY OF TMA
The Texas Mesquite Association (TMA) was established in 1992 by forty lumber mill operators, fine crafters and furniture makers who had an interest in Texas’ own exotic wood, the pesky mesquite. That fall a gathering of 60 plus woodworkers met in Uvalde, Texas at Bill & Robert Hensarling’s workshop for a tour and barbecue.
Today the Association promotes the annual Art Festival through state-wide advertising. Forty-five members are selected to display their products and 4,000 customers return to shop each year.
The October Art Festival and general membership meeting is held annually in Fredericksburg. The Festival has continued to grow each year with new artists and woodworkers from all parts of the state.
TMA also sponsors a full-day woodworking seminar each spring. The clinics teach woodworkers specific techniques useful with mesquite.
The Association is recognized as a tax-exempt non-profit organization for education. Membership has grown to over 200 active members and publishers a newsletter devoted entirely to mesquite.

  • ACT AS A RESERVOIR OF INFORMATION FOR WORKING WITH MESQUITE AND OTHER NATIVE TEXAS WOODS
  • ENJOY FELLOWSHIP & GOOD TIMES WHILE DOING ALL OF THE ABOVE
  • PROVIDE FOUR SEMESTERS OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS WHO PLANT TO OBTAIN A DEGREE IN CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
